PATIENT INSTRUCTION SHEET
Nuclear Medicine Stress Tests
Your doctor has determined that the circulation to your heart needs to be evaluated. An easy way to do this, with minimal risk, is to perform a cardiac imaging procedure. The test consists of two sets of images, rest and stress. You will be in our Nuclear Medicine department for approximately 3 to 4 hours. Preparation for the test:
· Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes (no dresses, overalls, or one piece clothing)
· Please do not wear perfumes, lotions, or colognes. Deodorants are fine.
· If your appointment is scheduled for the morning, do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your test. (You may have water to take any medication.) If you have an afternoon appointment time, you may have a light breakfast the morning of the test, but nothing to eat or drink 4 hours before your appointment time.
· Do not have any caffeine 24 hours before your test is scheduled, regardless of your appointment time. This includes sodas, teas, coffee, decaf beverages (including decaf tea and decaf coffee), chocolate, and any medications that contain caffeine.
· If you are diabetic, you may take half of your insulin or pills and bring the remaining half with you to take after the exam is complete. You may eat one (2) pieces of dry toast and drink a small amount of juice no less than two hours before your test.
· Medications that interfere with this test are listed on the below. Please do not take these medications 48 hours prior to test. It is okay to take your other medicines with water unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. If you have any questions about which medications not to take, please contact our office for instructions before arriving for your test.
· Please bring a list of medications that you are currently taking. This list should include medication name, amount, and frequency. Also include a list of any drug allergies.
